One million lunches for hungry children. Think about that for a second. We have funded one million lunches for impoverished children in Central America, India, and Africa through our partnership with Charlie’s Lunch Ministries. Now we are excited to announce a new broader initiative we call “IO Loves” that will feed and educate impoverished and at-risk kids here in the U.S. and around the world. None of this would be possible without the unwavering support of our consultants, customers, and staff. Why is that? Maybe it’s because life has a way of teaching us all the value of investing in a child’s future. Kids like we’ve met in the slums of Guatemala and Honduras, and the volunteers and teachers charged with caring for them, have each played a role in shaping the new IO Loves mission and campaign. What we’ve learned along the way is what many of you already know—a child just needs a fair shot to be their best. That opportunity requires proper nutrition, caring role models, and access to a good education. How do we top one million lunches? We do it by changing the course of a child’s life, and then we do it again and again.
IO Loves will be funded by donating all the profits from the sale of embroidered lunchboxes as well as our new personalized backpacks. Likewise, customers will have the opportunity to round up their order totals for IO Loves or contribute directly to lunches. In addition to Charlie’s Lunch, profits from lunchboxes will also go to a well established American charity called Blessings in a Backpack. This amazing charity operates at the local level by providing students with backpacks filled with nutritious food for the weekend. In the U.S., 16 million children live in food insecure households meaning they have little to eat outside of the federally subsidized school lunch program. Our donations will make a difference, whether that be from the sale of a single lunchbox or dozens, as is often the case when consultants do Lunchbox Love community service projects.
Similarly, we believe in the need to educate poor and at-risk children–to give them hope and opportunity to break out of the cycle of poverty. While we have supported educational projects in the past such as the building of a high school in Honduras, our new IO Loves campaign includes educating needy children at home in the U.S. as well. Here we will kick it off by donating the profits from our backpacks (both individual sales and large scale Backpack Love projects) to a Christian based after-school program called Love Never Fails (LNF). LNF provides one on one mentoring, tutoring, character development, and educational field trips to poor and at risk children. These elementary and middle school kids come from households where the average household income is under $10,000. Likewise, we will continue to fund international projects at Christian schools in Honduras (the Jungle School) and Mexico (the Berea School). As we uncover new opportunities to make a positive impact we will spread the love. On behalf of the whole IO family and our customers, Thanks for Making a Difference!
