Are You Surviving or Thriving?… Don’t Shoot for Minimums.
Does this conversation sound familiar?
We’re taking an overnight trip. I need you to go to the store and buy 6 slices of bread and 6 slices of cheese so that all 3 of us can have a sandwich. Then, stop by the gas station. We need 7.3 gallons to get there and back. After that, stop by the bank and get $128.74 so that we have what we need for the hotel room.
What would this conversation really sound like?
If it were me, I would buy the whole loaf of bread and the whole pack of cheese so that if someone wanted more, I would have it. I would also pack some snacks to go along with it. I would fill up the tank and probably get more like $150-$200 out of the bank. Why? Because I would want to have a cushion. We would be okay if we got off track or found a cool place to stop and get ice cream or browse along the way. And heaven forbid the calculations for gas weren’t right and we ran out! No way! Don’t need that anxiety. It makes no sense to do just the minimum in these instances, and no one would.
What about these statements? Do they sound familiar?
“I need $131 more to hit my minimum and qualify this month.”
“What do I have to do to be paid as a leader?” “I need $37 more to keep my consistency bonus.” “If you can get someone else to order, this can be a party.”
Why do we accept shooting for the bare minimum in our business when we don’t really accept it anywhere else in life?
A person can go 3 days without water. Do you drink water more often than that?
A person can go 40 days without eating. Do you eat more often than that?
Sure you do. Because we know that is the bare minimum we need for survival – and we aren’t looking to survive, but to thrive!
I encourage you to set yourself and your business up for a thriving future. Not only will setting goals far past the minimums reduce the stress associated with being “almost but not quite there yet” at the end of each month, but it will also help you reach the personal, professional, and financial rewards that you are hoping to receive from your Initial Outfitters business.
Set your sights higher! You will be surprised what you can achieve!
